About AALI

The American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI), headquartered in Washington, DC, is a leading nonprofit organization that offers leadership identification, development and support programs for administrators at public and private colleges and universities across the country with grants from Academic Search, Inc.  

AALI works with member institutions and employees of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) to cultivate the next generation of higher education leadership from within their member institutions.

AALI Priorities

The Board of Directors of the American Academic Leadership Institute has identified the following priorities and strategic directives for AALI:

  • Support and sustain higher education leadership through a wide variety of outstanding educational and occasional consultative programs and initiatives that focus on the identification, development, and effectiveness of academic leadership.

  • Address the development of leadership to fill upcoming vacancies in all areas of higher education.

  • Support and sustain diversity in leadership for the academy.

  • Create and implement programming to support administrative effectiveness and professional development, including the opportunity to have ongoing discussions of new developments in higher education.

  • Provide assistance in addressing issues facing higher education and its governance by consulting with boards of trustees and individual academic leaders concerning both traditional and emerging matters.
